The 20th Street Historic District comprises an uncommonly unified group of 10 intact (mostly) craftsman homes from the early 1900s. As delightful as the architecture is in this district, it's the stories of the families that lived here early on that make the history of this block come alive.

#241: Washington Irving Branch Library (West Adams)

Designed by the firm of Allison & Allison, the Washington Irving Branch was one of a wave of libraries built in the 1920s to meet the needs of a growing LA. It's been vacant since the late 1990s, when the branch moved a few blocks westwards.

#162: Second Church of Christ, Scientist (University Park)

This grand neoclassical edifice was designed by Alfred Rosenheim for the second Christian Science congregation in LA. Built in 1910, it was sold to the Art of Living Foundation in 2009.

#160: Frederick Hastings Rindge Residence (West Adams)

This 1902 French chateau-style mansion was once the home of businessman and philanthropist Frederick Hastings Rindge, the last private owner of Malibu and one of the developer of West Adams Heights. Rindge's wife May Knight Rindge continued to live here for 36 years after Frederick died, and waged an unsuccessful battle to keep Malibu private.
