Five Historic Houses That Even Your Kids Will Love
If you’re a parent and a landmark hunter, you know the frustration of dragging the family to a historic home you’ve been eyeing for months, only to remember at the last moment that oh right, my kindergartener probably isn’t as into Spanish colonial bungalow courts as I am. Cue “I’m bored” x100 and “I’m STARVING” x3000.
There’s another way! LA is full of cool-ass old buildings that offer plenty for both architecture buffs and those who might prefer sitting at home watching Encanto for the 30th time. The fine folks at Friends of Residential Treasures: Los Angeles asked me to curate a guide to five of them. So here ’tis!
FORT:LA does a pretty deep dive on each of these five houses. But if you want to hear even more of my own yappin’ about them, here you go:
- Highland-Camrose Bungalow Village (EDLA #82)
- Lummis House (EDLA #129)
- Avila Adobe (Part of the LA Plaza Historic District – EDLA #50)
- Rancho Los Cerritos (EDLA #125)
- Adamson House (part of the Malibu Historic District – EDLA #64)
FYI, if you’ve never heard heard of FORT:LA, I highly recommend exploring their catalog of trails and thorough research guides to the most amazing residential architecture in the city. Sign up for free to get access to everything at fortla.org.
