If you’re a parent and a landmark hunter, you know the frustration of dragging the family to a historic home you’ve been eyeing for months, only to remember at the last moment that oh right, my kindergartener probably isn’t as into Spanish colonial bungalow courts as I am. Cue “I’m bored” x100 and “I’m STARVING” x3000.

There’s another way! LA is full of cool-ass old buildings that offer plenty for both architecture buffs and those who might prefer sitting at home watching Encanto for the 30th time. The fine folks at Friends of Residential Treasures: Los Angeles asked me to curate a guide to five of them. So here ’tis!
